Just caught myself thinking “wow there must be like no ships in this fandom because they’re all siblings” and then I remembered

“macdennis”. this name keeps coming up over and over again. every day, macdennis posts are getting recommended to me. macdennis! macdennis! i look up ‘iasip’, and this whole tag is macdennis! so i say to myself, “i gotta find this ship. i gotta watch the show and find out what’s goin’ on! otherwise, i’m never going to get it and i’m going to keep being confused.” so i look up “macdennis”, and what do i find out? what do i find out?! there is no macdennis. the ship is not canon, okay? so i decide, “oh shit, buddy, i gotta dig a little deeper.” there’s no macdennis? you gotta be kidding me! i got blogs full of macdennis! alright. so i start marchin’ my way down to rcg and i knock on their door and i say, “glenn! rob! i gotta talk to you about macdennis!” and when i open the door what do i find? there’s not a single goddamn desk in that office! there. is. no. rcg. guys, half the employees in management have been made up. this writers room is a goddamn ghost town.

“We have received your recent submission sent for publishing consideration. Your manuscript, The End: A Philosophy of Death, was a brutal, devastating look at the ultimate futility of life. It was gripping from cover to cover and refused to be let go.

“Unfortunately, Caring Books focuses primarily on children’s literature and picture books, which is why we have to pass on your book. It simply isn’t for us.”

Anonymous asked: do you actually know of specific fans who wouldn't show up for poc/lgbt folks and are buying nypd merch or are you just trying to start shit... most people in this fandom seem supportive of these communities and i don't know of anyone who supports the actual nypd because of b99??

batromanoff:

alright let’s break this down -

let’s start with the nypd merch issue bc that’s the easiest thing to show proof of.

image

boom. a giveaway of official nypd merch from a popular b99 twitter acc. (source)

additionally, when someone tweeted their dislike of b99 fans wearing nypd merch, here were a couple replies:

and another tweet on the subject matter just for good measure:

this seems like pretty obvious support of the nypd to me. since, ya know. money. is power.

and if that isn’t enough, the knee-jerk reaction of stans any time someone mentions b99 being cop propaganda is also pretty trash. like, can this fandom not comprehend an issue that isn’t black and white for once?? i’d argue the cop propaganda x entertainment industry discourse is a very complex issue that b99 DOES play into bc it’s a sitcom about american cops - a historically oppressive institution!!!! whenever black and brown americans who are LITERALLY AT RISK OF DEATH/INJURY/UNLAWFUL ARREST/ETC. any time they encounter cops suggest that a show where cops are the good, lovable guys may be propagandist in the way it can influence ppl (especially the uninformed and those who don’t actually live in these communities under this oppressive communal rule of american law enforcement), the fandom literally goes batshit on the defensive, bc there’s NO WAY their favorite show can be at any fault.

i say this isn’t a black/white issue bc a lot of ppl can still enjoy b99 - but it’s disrespectful to both poc AND lgbtq+ - 2 communities this show tries to cater to primarily - to not consider the historical and sociological implications at work here as well.

tl;dr - analyze and criticize your favorite shows a bit sometimes maybe ?

also one (1) racial profiling episode out of 100+ episodes does not, in fact, absolve the world of systemic racism

it is through this analysis of the fandom’s engagement with the real-life nypd and the ongoing attacks against lgbtq+ ppl in this fandom for headcanoning characters as lgbtq+ (such as jake being bi), not to mention the ignorance that often brushes closely with actual h*mophobia/b*phobia/etc that other fans display in their attempts to *respectfully disagree* with lgbtq+ hcs, that i drew the conclusions that pushed me to make my post earlier.

one of the main issues here is performative allyship - ppl think that bc they support b99, a show featuring lgbtq+ and poc characters/actors, that means they’re automatically “woke”.

while some (generally white and/or cishet) fans have claimed lgbtq+/poc stans act “entitled” when they demand further representation of minority groups, this supposed “entitlement” is most seen in those who believe they have automatically Valid Opinions on this issue bc oh, of course, they watch the show with the bi latina and the gay black man! lived experience be damned, i am Knowledgeable and therefore more Aware than others who don’t watch this show!

and yet, we can’t even have a simple conversation with black and brown folks in the u.s. about police propaganda without flipping our shit.

so, yeah, i can’t rly “start shit” when this shit started the moment stans thought it’d be cute to support the real-life nypd to show how much they love, love, loooove b99. uwu
